On Saturday, our publications students participated in a regional qualifying writing competition. They faced off against students from seven other San Diego area schools and put their writing knowledge to the test. They participated in presentations and question and answer sessions for one hour, and then had one hour to compose a story based on what they had learned.
These competitions are known as Write Offs. They have been dormant in San Diego for at least the last 10 years, but we are working to bring them back. And our students are kicking butt and taking names! Never, in the history of Write Offs, have Orange Glen students qualified for the State tournament… But this year, WE HAD A 100% SUCCESS RATE!
ALL FOUR of our PROUD Patriots qualified for State! Please congratulate:
Amaya Briceno (9)—Feature Writing
Maria Martinez (11)—News Writing
Trevor Owens (12)—Sports Writing
These students will be moving on to the state tournament in Long Beach on March 25, where they are eligible for $500-$1000 in scholarships. Their qualifying scores also open the door for our OTHER students to compete at the state level in additional categories (photography, design, etc.).
Please congratulate these students. They have made OG history, as the FIRST Patriots to qualify for the state write off tournament in our school’s HISTORY. They toppled students from Carlsbad High, Torrey Pines, Sage Creek, Classical Academy, San Dieguito Academy and others.
WAY TO GO PUBLICATIONS KIDDOS!!!
