On February 19th, there will be a Palomar College Application Workshop for SENIORS ONLY! The workshop will take place from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM. Palomar staff will be helping out during this event. The Escondido Union High School District values input from various stakeholders and uses this feedback throughout the development of the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP). The LCAP is a plan that describes the district's overall vision for student success and includes investment actions aimed at improving student outcomes. The ELPAC is the first step in the reclassifying process and allows you to earn the CA State Seal of Biliteracy. The dates are February 8th & 22nd from 8am-12pm.

Through the use of SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Curriculum San Diego Youth Services will be conducting a week long “Check your Mood” week on your campus to all 9th graders. In addition, the HERE Now program is working to support the school culture and environment to be preventive and proactive in educating all members of the school community regarding suicide prevention and identifying and working with individual students who may be struggling emotionally and/or engaging in self-destructive or otherwise risky behaviors.

Inspired by his Mexican roots and family, Escondido native Aled Anaya said he’s been an artist for as long as he can remember. Congratulations to our Rising Star for November, Danielle Ambriz. She was honored by the Escondido Chamber of Commerce this morning and is now in the running for a $1,000 scholarship. Many thanks to Amy Booth and Rachel Bronwyn for speaking on this remarkable young woman’s behalf.

Through the use of SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Curriculum San Diego Youth Services will be conducting a week long “Check your Mood” week on your campus to all 9th graders. A presentation will be offered for their parents and guardians. SOS focuses on preventing suicide by educating youth and their families on the risk factors of suicide and to reduce the stigma around seeking help for themselves or others.

Orange Glen Future Laywers Club won a full Mock Trial Scholarship to compete in the four round competition at the Federal Superior Court downtown in February and we have received preliminary approval for another grant. We will be the first team out of Escondido to compete. OG, as always, continues to make a way and break through barriers for our students.

Mock Trial practices are well under way and our OG Future Lawyers have three federal attorneys that we will be working with regularly this year. We will be one of 30 schools competing this year.

Congratulations to our very dedicated 66 parents/legal guardians who graduated from the Parent Institute for Quality Education (better known as PIQE) program. These group of parents/legal guardians participated in a eight consecutive weekly workshops where they learned about the high school system and college admission information, among many other school-related topics (CA dashboard, met with their children's counselors, etc). Some had perfect attendance, too, which reflected on a star printed on their certificate.
Each parent/legal guardian got a certificate and celebrated with their family members in attendance. A group of our OGHS's NJROTC students and a trio of talented OGHS musicians/singers also participated to recognize their efforts and commitment to their children's education and future. The PIQE graduation ceremony took place on the evening of Tuesday, November 12, 2019 in the PAC.
